A gentle, structured way to build confidence behind the camera

starting on 26th January 2026

Photography for Your Creative Business is a five week guided photography programme for creative business owners who want to feel confident photographing their own work and processes.

This is not about becoming a photographer, it’s about learning to use your camera with confidence, trusting your eye, and creating photographs that reflect the skill and intention you already bring to what you make.

Why this programme exists

After many conversations with creatives, it seems that photography is the part of running a business that can feel the most overwhelming.

You love your work, and you want to share it with the world, but the thought of photographing it becomes so daunting. The light feels wrong, you’re pressing all the buttons and moving all the dials in the hope of getting something, but the images don’t match how the work feels in real life.

Photography For Your Creative Business is here to change that.

To help you move from hesitation into a more confidence space. From relying on the auto setting of your camera, to feeling able to photograph your work and your processes yourself, in a way that feels natural and true to you.

As brand photographers, myself and Suzi recognise the value of having a professional take a series of images of you and your business. Yet we also understand that there is a need for creative business owners to learn how to take photographs themselves.

Who this is for

This programme is for you if you:

  • Run a creative business as a maker, artist, florist, ceramicist, shop owner or other creative practitioner

  • Have a DSLR, mirrorless or bridge camera that can be used in Manual Mode

  • Want to move beyond Auto

  • Feel unsure about light, settings or composition

  • Want photographs that feel honest, calm and intentional

  • Would like photography to feel part of your creative practice, not something you dread

You don’t need prior technical experience. You don’t need a studio or perfect light. You just need curiosity and a willingness to learn.

How the programme works

Photography for Your Creative Business runs over five weeks and is designed to fit gently around your working life.

The learning is workbook led, so you can move at your own pace, return to lessons, and build confidence step by step.

Each week includes:

  • A thoughtfully designed workbook

  • Clear photography guidance and exercises

  • A live group Zoom chat for questions and feedback

  • A community space to share work if you’d like (always optional)

All the community aspects are hosted on Mighty Networks, accessible via app or browser.

The weekly focus

Week One — Understanding Your Camera

Build confidence with your camera and learn how manual mode works, without the overwhelm.

Week Two — Learning to See Light

Understand how light affects mood, depth and feeling, and learn to work with what you have.

Week Three — Composition & Simplicity

Learn how to frame, simplify and make thoughtful visual choices.

Week Four — Photographing Your Work

Create images of your products, details, spaces and process that reflect how you work.

Week Five — Bringing It All Together

Build consistency, confidence and a small library of images you can use with ease.

Support and community

Alongside the workbooks, we’ll meet weekly on Zoom to have a chat.

These sessions are a space to:

  • Ask questions

  • Discuss work that has been shared on our community platofrm

  • Receive gentle, constructive feedback

  • Feel supported as you learn

Sharing your work is encouraged, but never required.

The group is kept small (maximum 30 participants) to ensure a calm, supportive environment.

Together we’ve been taking photographs of brands and businesses for over 15 years. While we’ve been fortunate enough to photograph a number of household names in this time (including The National Trust, Tesco Ireland and Canopy and Stars) our favourite shoots have always been those of individual makers, artists and creatives. We’re repeatedly drawn to photographing people who express themselves through their creativity, feel at home in their work, and make things with thought and intention.

You can see some of our work with these people here.

The investment for Photography for Your Creative Business is £295. This reflects five weeks of thoughtful, structured learning, live support, a community space to share work, and a programme designed to give you skills you can return to again and again. My intention is that this isn’t just a short term boost, but something that continues to support you as your work and business evolve. And for photography to be something you enjoy!

At the end of the course, we would like you to feel:

  • Confident in your ability to use your camera and take the photographs you would like to take.

  • Not needing to wait for a professional photoshoot, and able to add seasonal elements, or photograph new products or services as you create them.

  • To have the satisfaction of having learnt and developed a new creative skill, and the excitement to continue taking photographs and building on these skills in the future.

  • To feel part of a community, supported and encouraged, and hopefully with a few new internet friends to follow!

Photography for Your Creative Business is a gentle, practical way to build confidence that lasts, so photographing your work becomes something you return to with ease, rather than put off. I’d love to have you along.

We really look forward to seeing your work and providing feedback during our weekly Zooms, but if you would like a more in depth 1-1 to review work and move forward a few of these will be made available during the course for you to book.

‘There’s no better way to start the year than by devoting valuable time to your craft, and to this online class with Sarah Mason.

If your business depends on showing customers what you make, then being able to photograph your work, at whatever time of day the light is right, is one of the most important skills you can have. Sarah’s way of teaching photography, if you follow all that she says, and put in time to practise, will transform the way you see your work as well as the way others view it. Sarah has taught me so much about photography and this course makes it feel easy. So easy that you’ll find yourself picking up your camera every day.

I can’t recommend this class highly enough’. Sarah Statham

‘Sarah is brilliant at breaking down concepts so you can understand them in isolation before putting them all together in manual. But what I like most about her approach is that it’s so gentle and humble. She takes care to make sure everyone is OK and listens to the answers. She has an infectious enthusiasm and so much skill and creativity - and she would never hesitate about sharing any of it. Thank you Sarah and thank you new and old friends.’ Ffion Atkinson

ABOUT YOUR TUTORS

Hello, I’m Sarah, a photographer and filmmaker based in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire.

I am drawn to telling people’s stories, and motivated by the idea that these stories are all entwined with each other. For me, photography is a way of pulling on the threads of our lives, and finding the places where they knot and bind. It’s these tangled ties that give us our shared sense of humanity, and what we can return to when loneliness and disconnection creep in.

I work alongside my wife Suzi, who is also a photographer and together we have built our business over the last thirteen years.

For me, photography has always been about recording moments of connection between people, or the things they love to do. It’s about capturing the look of someone totally absorbed in their craft.

I’ve also seen how important our photography has been to the growth of our own business, and I can see how valuable the skills we have are in marketing our work and building a community. I’m really keen to share these skills with other creatives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What sort of camera do I need?

A: Any DSLR, mirrorless camera or bridge camera you can use in Manual Mode, and you’re good to go.

Q: Can I do this course if I only have a smartphone camera?

A: The course is designed for those who have a DSLR or mirrorless camera that has manual mode, and you will struggle to get value from the course without one.

Q: Will you teach me how to use my specific camera?

A: All cameras are slightly different, and we just can’t cover them all. We recommend you dig out and become familiar with your camera manual before the course.

Q: What camera will you be demonstrating on?

A: We will be demonstrating on our Nikon DSLR and Sony mirrorless cameras.

Q: Will you teach me how to take photographs specifically for Instagram?

A: We believe photography is for life not just for Instagram! Instagram is a fantastic platform for sharing and building community, and one we really love, but it is not what we take photographs specifically for. However, good photography always does well on Instagram and learning how to take interesting photographs is useful if you wish to grow your profile.

Q: Do I get lifetime access to the course?

A: You will receive the core course material as PDF workbooks which you can keep for your personal use. Please do not share or copy these, they are solely for you and your learning. The community elements and sharing of work on Mighty Networks will just be for the duration of the course.

Q: Will you teach me how to edit my photographs?

A: There will be a bonus lesson on editing your photographs, including demonstrations in Lightroom. If you do not have Lightroom then there will be other editing programmes that are similar in function but not in design so it would be up to you to learn how to use yours.

Q: If I change my mind after registration can I get a refund?

A: All payments are final, but if your personal circumstances change then please do get in touch.

Q: When will you be running this course again?

A: Our next run is tbc. Please join our mailing list to be the first to hear about it.
