Retreat: Your Journey Into Photography
Day Retreat- £225
2nd April 2019
We want you to be in charge of your camera rather than the other way round, so we've developed a day course to help you use your DSLR with confidence. This course is designed for you if you're ready to embrace shooting in manual, leave auto behind, and get to grips with all those buttons.
'If there is a better way to spend a Saturday, I can't think of it. Warm and cosy by the fire, constant tea, and learning all kinds of techniques and inspirational ways of taking better photographs.'
What will I learn?
How to....
balance aperture, shutter speed and ISO
shoot in manual
see and use natural light
create depth in your images
learn how to control your camera settings through practical exercises
Tell me more about the day
Arrival is from 9.30am for tea and pastries ready for a 10am start. Our location for the day is the cosy Wash House in Hebden Bridge, which is very close to the train station. If it's a bit nippy outside, the log burning stove will be glowing when you come in. Warm yourself by the fire, whilst we have a cup of tea and chat about what the day will bring.
We'll learn all about our cameras and the basics of shooting in manual. We'll have regular practicals nearby during the day so you can put into practise what you've learnt and get more familiar with your camera settings. A warming lunch will be provided to get you all set for the afternoon. Over lunch we can answer any questions you have.
For the second part of the day we will cover the various different elements of composition and discuss what makes a good photograph. We will head out again into the surrounding area for a practical around composition.
Before we finish, at around 5.30pm, there will be a cheeky glass of something for those who don't have to rush off. If anyone is staying for the evening then we're happy to provide recommendations on good eateries and drinkeries - there are plenty of little gems in Hebden Bridge.
Just before we say our goodbyes, we'd love people to share some of their photos from the weekend. We hope to see you soon!
